Summitview and Churches in Nepal
Summitview Community Church in Fort Collins, CO began a relationship with the churches in Nepal in May 2007 when they sent a team of six college students there for a two week mission trip. This team had the opportunity to initiate relationships with Nepalese believers, to visit many churches, and to see the country. Following that formative and inaugural trip, Uttam, the pioneer of the Great Commission churches in Nepal, visited Summitview and spoke at various meetings in Fort Collins. As we got to know him, and he us, the Summitview-Nepal relationship deepened. Pastor John Meyer and four other men from Summitview traveled to Nepal in 2008. In spring 2010, seven college students from Summitview united for a second mission trip to Nepal. A short time after, John Meyer had the opportunity to visit Uttam and his family, this time in Sydney, Australia, where they continued developing a united vision for life and ministry. Throughout the last year, Uttam has been participating in Summitview’s weekly pastor training class via Skype.
Children’s Home
There is currently one Children’s Home supported by our sister churches in Nepal. In this home, host parents take in 15 or more orphaned and/or underprivileged children. Every child is taken care of by a married couple who considers it their full-time job to look after, raise, and love these children. Their days consist of early morning devotions, chores, and breakfast, followed by schooling until about 4:00 in the afternoon. Dinner is always rice and lentils, and the children do homework until their evening devotion and bedtime – a full day for sure! Because the Home was established about 12 years ago, the first ‘generation’ of children is graduating and beginning a new life that is forever altered by the love and commitment of their host family. Lives are truly being changed, and futures are being molded into God’s will!
Investing in Nepal
Every month, believers in the church in Nepal expend much energy seeking financial support to keep the Children’s Home running. Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world, and is sustained mostly through tourism. Business development is hindered by the booming industries of nearby India and China. The goal of Summitview’s Investing in Nepal initiative is to raise the support needed monthly ($2,000) to run the Children’s Home through individual supporters. The financial support raised monthly through Investing in Nepal will grant believers in Nepal the opportunity to focus on other kingdom work rather than monthly support-raising.
Givers
As a partner and giver in this ministry, each month your support will go to the leaders of the Children’s Home and will be used to cultivate, support, and nourish the children. As they get older and graduate college, the goal is for them to be self-supporting and able to give back to their country. This ministry takes hurting children who are at risk, and, by God’s grace and plan, yields young adults ready to believe Him for big things in their lives.
We are excited to open this opportunity to you and would ask that you pray about giving regularly to this ministry in monthly donations to the Investing in Nepal fund. In this packet we’ve included the profile of a child living in the Children’s Home in Nepal, a signup card if you are interested in committing to supporting the Children’s Home through Investing in Nepal, and a sample contribution check. We are asking for a one-year commitment (at the end of each year, we will ask if you’d like to renew your commitment). If you have questions or would like more information, do not hesitate to contact Nathan.
