Prayer Team

In Brief

The Summitview Prayer Team is devoted to covering the church, the community and the world in prayer, believing that prayer is the starting point of any great work of God.  We typically organize regular prayer meetings during the week, which we invite anyone and everyone to attend, and also arrange for periodic larger scale prayer events.  If anyone has a heart to pray, or simply has life circumstances that could use prayer, we’d love to have you join us at one of our prayer meetings or even consider joining our prayer team.  You can also send prayer requests to prayer@summitview.com and we will be sure to pray for them.

  • Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving.
    Colossians 4:2 (NAS)
  • But the prayer of the upright is His delight.
    Proverbs 15:8b (NAS)
  • Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
    Psalm 127:1 (ESV)
  • In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you
    and wait in expectation.
    Psalm 5:3 (NIV)

Puposes of the Summitview Prayer Team

Personal Prayer:  Prayer will only flourish if each individual has a vibrant personal relationship with God through prayer.  We intend for the encouragement provided by the prayer team to serve as a platform for a growing personal devotion to prayer.  Corporate prayer gatherings are only effective if they reflect a heart that makes prayer a lifestyle, and if they feed that heart.

United Prayer:  Every Christian understands that prayer is necessary (Mark 9:29).  We understand that all of our efforts and plans are useless unless the Lord builds (127:1).  We also believe that united, corporate prayer seems to have some kind of special significance in the eyes of Jesus (Matthew 18:19-20).  As a result, every church needs people that are committed to praying together for a variety of needs in the church and in the world.  It is also clear from experience that some important needs in the church will not be prayed for unless a group of people takes specific responsibility to do so.  Therefore, the Summitview Prayer Team is committed to regularly gathering together to seek God and petition Him for our church and beyond.

Promotion of Prayer:  While we intend to be committed to praying together regularly, we do not want prayer to be the responsibility of a few with a particular heart for it.  Rather, we want to be ambassadors of prayer in our church.  The Prayer Team is not an exclusive ministry.  We want it to be constantly growing and being used to draw more and more people into regular, fervent prayer.

Tools

Friday Morning Prayer Meetings:  We currently meet every Friday at 6:30am in the Upper Room to lift up our church and world in prayer.  We also pray through any personal requests that we receive.

Sunday Morning Prayer Meetings:  Since our Sunday morning church services are the largest and most labor intensive meetings of our week, they must be supported in prayer.  The Sunday morning prayer team prays for the morning, along with any other requests that come in.  You are welcome to stop by Room 211 anytime after 10:45am to offer a request and/or pray with the team.

Webpage:  This page on our website summarizes the overall purposes of the prayer ministry here at Summitview.  From this page, we also allow our Prayer Team members access to current prayer requests so that they can be personally praying through those requests during the week.

Periodic challenges:  We also try to stretch our prayer muscles occasionally through individual challenges.  This may include praying for a specific request or event every day for a certain amount of time.  Perhaps it is simply reading a recommended book on prayer.  Whatever the case, we want to keep our hearts and minds refreshed in the need for prayer, and in the practice of prayer.

"When we rely upon organization, we get what organization can do.
When we rely upon eloquence, we get what eloquence can do.  And so on.
But when we rely upon prayer, we get what God can do."
A.C. Dixon

"There is nothing that tells the truth about us as Christian people so much as our prayer life."
Martyn Lloyd-Jones

"I would rather teach one man to pray than ten men to preach."
Charles Spurgeon
